- Two albums of photographs of Burma. [c.1887-1897]

2 volumes, oblong folio (294 x 443mm.), 107 albumen prints, comprising: 93 large (average 200 x 262mm.) individually mounted, and 14 smaller (108 x 155mm.) mounted in pairs, recto only, nearly all captioned in pencil on the mounts, uniformly bound in nineteenth-century red half roan, flat spines gilt, some overall uniform fading, six mounts and photographs at the end of one volume torn and stained, bindings waterstained and rather worn

Compiled by a member of the Renny-Tailyour family, who served in Burma in the nineteenth-century, formerly of Dubton House, near Montrose, Scotland; thence by descent

Catalogue Note
A large collection of photographs, including portraits, topographical and architectural views, and military groups, the majority by Felice Beato, who was in Burma from 1887 to 1897. One photograph shows Sir Charles Haukes Todd Crosthwaite KCSI (1835-1915) with soldiers in Burma; he served as Chief Commissioner in Burma from March 1887 to December 1890.
