"The Harlequin Playing the Bagpipes" was first modelled by Kändler circa 1735-36 and many variations of the model followed through 1760. The present example is believed to be one of the earliest type. Similar examples are illustrated by Michael Newman, Die deutschen Porzellan-Manufakturen, Volume I, p. 114, pl. 114; and by Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Porzellansammlung Gustav von Klemperer, pl. 51, no. 552.
