Catalogue Note

The arms, within the Garter, are those of Paget, for Henry William, 2nd Earl of Uxbridge and 1st. Marquess of Anglesey, field marshall, K.G., G.C.H., K.M.T., K.S.G., lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1828-29 and 1830-38, and  Master General of the Ordnance. He held a major part in the victory of Waterloo, where he was wounded, causing the loss of a leg. He married first in 1795 Caroline Elizabeth, daughter of George, 4th Earl of Jersey, who divorced him in 1818 in Scotland and married George William, 6th Duke of Argyll, and secondly in 1810, Charlotte, previously wife of Hon. Sir Henry Wallesley G.C.B., afterwards Lord Cowey and daughter of Charles, 1st Earl of Cadogan. He died in 1854.
