A rare and large pair of KPM ormolu-mounted figural nine-light candelabra circa 1890

Description

each modelled, by Paul Schley, in the Neo-Rococo style as a half-length figure of hunched nymph or satry supporting a shell issuing ormolu branches fitted with nine candleholders, all on a pedestal surmounted with a putto above the high scroll-molded feet, one of which is molded with a female mask, sceptre marks in underglaze-blue, printed KPM orb marks in iron-red, impressed letters a or h and numerals 3351 or 3288.

Condition

In good condition, except: Both with some minor and occasional rubbing to gilding. The female candelabrum: The tips of the two scrolling elements issuing from her back, beneath the shell, are broken off and restored back. There are some very small, occasional chips to the edges of leaves or flowers overall. There is restoration to one scroll foot, possibly covering a haircrack. One drip pan has been broken and restored back. The same drip pan also has a tiny chip to the edge. Three other drip pans, each has one or two small chips to the pointy edges. The male candelabrum: The edge of the scrolling element on his right hand is chipped and restored back. There are occasional small chips or restored chips to the edges of flowers or leaves.
