decorated around the body with cherry blossoms, birds in flight and flying insects, affixed on either side with an elephant's head mask, impressed TH . DECK and cypher mark.

Condition

There is some overspray to the interior of the jardiniere and the curved base, possibly covering fine haircrack/s There are minor touch-ups to the eyebrows and husks of the elephant mask handles, possibly covering glaze chips or small chips. Otherwise in good condition.

A jardinière of this form is illustrated in Bernard Bumpus, Théodore Deck Céramiste, cat. no. 62, where the author notes a similar example being exhibited at the Vienna International Exhibition, 1873.
