the circular base and stem decorated with strapwork and female masks, the base also engraved with arms, monogram IWH, and presentation inscription, the detachable top with arms issuing from the mouths of three lion heads and centered by a pineapple

Catalogue Note
The inscription reads "Presented by the County of Oxford, to The Rt. Honble. Joseph Warner Henley, in recognition of his distinguished services as M.P. for that County, during the long period of thirty seven years, April, 1878."
Joseph Warner Henley (1793-1884) was a British conservative politician who was elected M.P. for Oxfordshire and held the seat until his retirement in 1878. He served as president of the board of trade under the protectionist governments of Lord Derby in the 1850's.
