Catalogue Note
These are reduced models of the two magnificent Marly Horses by Guillaume Coustou. The pendants were conceived in marble for the horse pond at Louis XIV's Château de Marly (now Louvre, Paris). Each monumental horse, wild, panicking and restrained by a single man, is one the most iconic images of 18th-century French art.
