Executed in 2016, this work is from an edition of 100. hand embroidered linen pinned on canvas board and two custom-made FAILE 1986 brass eyelets 59 by 111 cm; 23¼ by 43¾ in.
FAILE, a collective of artist duo Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller, uses appropriated images and symbols to initiative dialogue about contemporary ideologies. “Star Spangled Shadows" is indicative of the artists' graphic style but with a unique medium. Combining the pregnant symbolism of the American Flag and a motif from Native American pottery, this piece engages with a discussion on the boundaries of American identity.
