Catalogue Note

This piece is part of a series entitled “Lost in the City” featuring portraits of several cities around the world. Yz spent a month in Hong Kong a few years ago and was fascinated by the structure of the urban landscape. She took pictures of buildings in different areas of the city and painted in a small abandoned villages in the New Territories. Her time in Hong Kong culminated in an exhibition in Paris where she explored the duality of the two cities and their meanings for her as an artist. The result is an understanding of each location through an exploration of their architecture, ornamentations, and traditional aesthetics.
