Condition

To the naked eye : The painting appears in a satisfactory condition. It was relined about 50 years ago ; the relining was quite strong so that it has a little compressed the material. The painting was cleaned about 10 years ago, correctly realized. Under the U.V. light : We can see restorations in the sky. There are some more important retouches in the architectures. We can also notice restorations in the lower part and in the ground.

Catalogue Note

Our painting is part of a very homogeneous group of pictures formerly given to Hubert Robert by some art historians. Recently, different historians tend to render this group to an anonymous italian painter in the circle of Giovanni Paolo Pannini (1691-1765).
