Catalogue Note

Tobias van Tissenaken was active from 1596 until his death in 1629. He was elected dean of the Guild of Saint-Luke of Mechelen in 1619. Jan or Hans Verbeke was known from 1595 until 1607 in the same Guild, cleynsteker since 1610. According to an attribution on an alabaster relief depicting the Flight to Egypt (Hôtel Sandelin museum, Saint-Omer), the VB monogram could be for Peeter van Baelen, apprentice in the workshop of Lievin van Egom since 1612.
