Condition

Overall the condition of the plaster bust is very good with minor surface dirt, especially in the crevices, consistent with age and handling.There are a few minor scratches and chips in the high points of the drapery at several places. There are a few minor chips along the lower edge of the bust. The tip of her nose may have been slightly retouched. The plaster bust has a homogenous patina all over the surface which could have been slightly retouched at several places. There are stable shrinkage fissures on the wooden base consistent with the material.

Catalogue Note

The young Anne, daughter of the Genovan banker Michel Audéoud, is depicted at the age of three. Houdon made the marble version in 1781 and exhibited it in the Salon the same year (n° 255). This plaster bust is mentioned and published by Réau in the collection Jacques de Saint-Pierre in 1933, as by Houdon.
