Description

  • The old poet Anacreon wounded by Cupid
  • terracotta group
  • 26 x 15,5 cm; 10 1/4  by 6 1/4  in.

Condition

Overall the condition is good with minor surface dirt, especially in the crevices, consistent with age and handling and some minor scuffs and chips to the surface of the clay, consistent with the material. Anacreon's proper right forearm and Cupid's proper right foreleg appear to have been retouched. A hole (with a diameter of about 5mm) on the top base, probably where a missing vertical element was attached, has been filled with plaster. There are minor stable firing fissures at several places. There is a slip to the surface which may conceal some condition points such as possible reattachments.
