Description

  • Denys Calvaert
  • The presentation of Jesus at the Temple
  • Oil on canvas

Condition

To the naked eye, the painting is in a reasonably good overall condition. It has been recanvassed in the middle of the XXth century in a bit strong way but which did not damaged the surface. The varnish is not everywhere the same. It needs to be cleaned. Under the UV light the painting is under a yellow varnish. We can see a little restoration on the cheak of the Virgin and on her elbow.

Catalogue Note

We are thankful to the Art historian Pr. Emilio Negro who confirmed the attribution of that painting to Denys Calvaert on the basis of photographs.
