Catalogue Note

During the celebrations of the French Revolution centenary, monuments are built all over the country to the glory of the Third Republic. In 1888, the Town Council of Paris is asked to pay an homage to Nicolas Condorcet (1743-1794), scientist elected to the National Assembly. The winner of the project is Jacques Perrin. The present version is probably the earlier one;  second plaster version is in the Petit-Palais museum (height: 120 cm; inv. no. 900) with a monumental plaster of the same model greatly admired in the 1900 Universal Exhibition (height 330 cm; inv. no. PPS3494).
