Condition

Colour: The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is lighter and brighter in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Very close inspection reveals some faint scuffs marks to the extreme edges and a few hairline cracks, most notably to the top right of the pale blue rectangle and to the centre of the cream band on the right of the canvas. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light

Catalogue Note

“Rayne’s elegance is measured by his closeness to banality. There is another way to say this: the controlled correspondences that Rayne orchestrates are, in Duchamp’s coinage, infra-mince. That is, they are significant precisely because they verge on the almost completely insubstantial” (David Lewis, 'Blake Rayne', Frieze, 2008, online).
