Condition

Colour: The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is cooler in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Extremely close inspection reveals a few tiny specks of loss in isolated places. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.

Catalogue Note

"After a while, I realised that I could express everything I wanted to say, wherever in the world, with a small piece of wood and my tools … Carving is very hard: it’s like peeling a wooden apple and you cannot correct mishaps. It demands both great physical and imaginative effort and concentration" (Paloma Varga Weisz cited in: Jennifer Higgie, 'Paloma Varga Weisz: My Influences', Frieze, 1 May 2014, online).
