Description

  • Fabric
made from five sections of different colored brocade woven with a cloud pattern, inscribed in Chinese and Manchu script, each section concluding with an imperial seal reading Zhi gao zhi bao (The Seal of Edicts)

Condition

The first two fabric sections (constituting the outer layers when rolled) have considerable cracks, tears, losses, and stains, and are reinforced with tape and applied sheets of clear plastic. The inscribed brocade sections are in overall fair condition with only minor wear to the surface, uneven edges, and they are mounted on paper (stable but becoming slightly embrittled).
