Description

  • Ceramic
the rounded sides rising from tapered foot to an everted rim, covered allover in a light red glaze of crushed strawberry color, the rim and base glazed white, the base with a six-character seal mark in underglaze blue

Provenance

Collection of Thomas English Cody (1889-1948), grand-nephew of ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody (1846-1917).

Condition

The dish has a 4-mm chip to the rim and an approx. 3-cm hairline crack descending from the rim. Otherwise only minor expected wear to the surface and footring, and minor firing imperfections. Five old labels applied to the base: "Collection of Brooks & Dorothy Cofield 123", "109", "645", "9 2787", and "BTC" (the letters of the last label superimposed, so the intended order is unclear).
