ink on silk, fully written to the front and back in small kaishu characters with selected texts from the book Mencius, comprising a total of approximately forty-eight titled paragraphs and over twenty-eight thousand characters

Condition

This item is extremely fragile, tattered, and has scattered losses, stains and creases, however most of the text is intact and legible. Two old sticker labels are affixed to a back corner.

The present lot bears a label reading Ba Rande. This was the Chinese name of the dealer Edward Barrett, who actively collected materials of this type in China for sale in the US during 1920s.
