of cream-colored plain weave silk decorated with butterflies gracing scattered sprays of flowers and tall grasses, all executed in satin stitch in a pastel palette, mounted in pale green paper and silk matting within a gilt-wood frame (2)

Provenance

Collection of The Honorable Lewis Clark, United States Minister, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to China in the 1930’s – 1940’s, and thence by descent.

Condition

The silk in overall good condition with no signs of staining or discoloration, but with a small tear (approx. 2 cm) in one of the silk panels, and tiny black dot on the other silk panel. Please note that the silk panels were not removed from the frame for examination.
