Description

of flattened baluster form with animal-mask handles flanking the neck, carved in high relief with a young flutist riding an ox across a bridge toward a female immortal surrounded by pine, lingzhi, birds, and a cloud-borne pavilion, the reverse with a boy approaching a deer grasping a lingzhi beneath a pine tree and cranes, the knob of the lid carved as a white bird connecting the two heavily worked sides, wood stand (3)

Condition

Loss of white quartz on lid beneath bird's neck. Loss of black quartz on right wing of bird above female Immortal. Some cracks on body and lid. Some pitting in black quartz on body and lid. There are natural fissures to the cover, mouth and foot. There are a few additional minor chips and a natural crevice to the cover with an associated network of fissures, possibly aggravated by impact. Please note that this lot includes a stand, frame or other component made from a type of Chinese hardwood, which, if exported, will require a CITES permit to leave the United States.
