carved in high relief and openwork, the larger vase with Liu Hai holding a jar whence a three-legged toad escapes on a cloud and a second boy boasting a coin, the reverse with two other boys, the smaller vase with pine trees, lingzhi, a deer, a crane, and another auspicious beast, a large bird carved in the round perching on the tree connecting the two vases, associated malachite covers, wood stand (4)

Condition

The vase with some expected wear, minor losses, minute nicks, faint cracks, and accretions to the surface, as well as some black staining, particularly to one side. There are some natural flaws to the stone, as can be expected. The covers are associated, and the smaller cover with a restored break to the head of the crane and to several branches. The actual color of the stone is lighter compared to the catalogue illustration. Please note that this lot includes a stand, frame or other component made from a type of Chinese hardwood, which, if exported, will require a CITES permit to leave the United States.
