Description

  • bronze, lacquered wood
each of rectangular form, with a hinged canted cover, the top and front panels with confronting phoenix and dragon centered by a 'flaming pearl', the back and side panels with dragons, amidst stylized clouds with rolling waves and rockwork below, all done in crisp linear relief, raised on a stepped base with recessed waist carved with quatrefoils in high relief, with huangtong hinges, the rectangular lockplate and hasp with chased dragon and phoenix motif, bail handles set to either side with floret escutcheons and knock plates, the interior lined with yellow silk (2)
