Description

  • huanghuali
in Ming style, the two-board floating panel top set within rectangular frame above a beaded arched apron with cloud-scroll spandrels flanking rectangular section legs joined by double stretchers and terminating in barbed and splayed feet

Provenance

Acquired in the China in the 1920s, and thence by descent.

Condition

The top panel with a diagonal patch repair to one corner and filled and patch repairs to splitting on the other end. Both short aprons appear to be later replacements. All of the tips of the cloud scroll aprons are spliced on- one spandrel is missing its ends and has a long diagonal split. There has been previous consolidation overall and minor repairs and it is possible the double stretchers are later replacements. The joinery is loose. There is wear and staining to the surface consistent with age and use. Please note that this lot will require a CITES permit for export outside of the United States.
