Description

  • inkcake
of rectangular form with rounded and scrolled crests at either end, with mold-impressed scene of a heavenly pavilion and a trio of scholars playing chess above craggy cliffs with dense pine cover, the reverse with impressed inscription yu mo ('Imperial Inkcake'), above xianshan louge ('Pavilion on the Mountain of Immortals'), above a seal, yanyun shujuan, one side with molded hanjingtang zhencang ('Treasured Collection of the Hanjing Hall'), the other side with an apocryphal molded Qianlong mark

Condition

The surface with expected cracks throughout, as expected from age. There are some small losses to the ink, particularly along a crack at the front, as illustrated in the catalog.
