Description

  • huanghuali
the straight crestrail pipe-jointed to the back posts, the open back framed on three sides by scrolled and beaded brackets, repeated on the straight arms continuing down to form the front posts, the hard mat seat within a molded edge frame and a gallery rail at the back and sides formed of horizontal members and vertical struts, the legs joined on three sides by a beaded and cusped apron continuing to long flanged spandrels, the stepped stretchers with narrow plain aprons on the front and sides

Condition

The armchair has consolidated joinery, there are filled repairs to breaks at the arm/back post joints and further fill (now dried and cracked) encircling the front posts as they continue through the seat frame. The back apron is a later replacement and it is possible that some of the rails, struts and aprons have been replaced. The front stretcher apron has been glued into the mortises upside down. The joinery is slightly loose and there is wear to surface consistent with age and use. Please note that this lot will require a CITES permit for export outside of the United States.
