Description

  • huanghuali
of rectangular form, with a pair of doors opening to five removable drawers, surmounted by a folding mirror stand carved with a shaped toprail terminating in archaic-form finials, above molded segments of rectangular section forming latticework enclosing two shaped aprons flanking the central rectangular opening, with a hinged ratchet support, all raised on a conforming base, with circular metal mounts forming the central lock plate, pulls, and door hinges and reinforcing rectangular strap mounts to the corners and sides

Condition

The form has been modified to accommodate the mirror stands - the terminals of which extend beyond the sides of the chest. There has been general consolidation and an evident patch repair to one door frame. There may be some replaced elements and there is general wear over all. Please note that this lot will require a CITES permit for export outside of the United States.

Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
