Condition
The sheet has discoloured and the edges are slightly uneven, particularly the right hand side. There is a layer of surface dirt and handling marks along the edges. There are the remains of adhesive to the top edges on the reverse.Held in a gold painted frame behind glass. Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note
Kustodiev worked from June to August 1919 on the set and costume designs for The Power of the Fiend, an opera in five acts by Alexander Serov. The 1920 production at the former Mariinsky Theatre was directed by Feodor Chaliapin, who kept lots 65 and 66 for his personal collection.
