Condition
Structural Condition
The canvas is lined and is securely attached to a keyed wooden stretcher. This is ensuring an
even and stable structural support. The tacking and turnover edges are covered with brown
paper gum tape.
Paint Surface
The paint surface has an even varnish layer. The paint surface is entirely stable.
Inspection under ultra-violet shows two large linear retouchings within the foreground in the
lower left and right quadrants of the composition. These correspond to historic multi-legged
tears which have been addressed by the lining. Inspection under ultra-violet also shows
intermittent retouchings on the extreme edges of the composition and a small spot of
retouching in the upper centre of the sky.
Summary
The painting would therefore appear to be in good and stable condition.
