Description

  • size adjusted, now approximately 529 by 298cm; 17ft. 4in., 9ft. 9in.

Condition

Measurements: 298cm across the top, 291cm across the bottom, 529cm along the left side, 523cm along the right side. Generally low pile of 1mm. Some oxidisation to the dark browns, visible in border design. Lower border of carpet has been cut and joined horizontally in the corners and across the width, as visible in the photograph. Larger area of repiling in lower left corner of main field, and small areas in this area cut and joined and others repiled. Area centre of lower outer guard of old moth damage (7 by 8cm) with old pile lacking and only foundation visible, as seen as white spot area in photograph. Extensive scattered small reweaves in areas, for example see the green ground of border top right corner. Blue patch (12 by 6cm) in sixth palmette down from top of right border. Narrow vertical rectangular shaped reweaves in top border, (17 by 3cm) and (34 by 2cm) respectively and shaped reweave top right corner (10 by 2cm). Small repairs to indigo ground of main field including reweave (7 by 13cm) centre top right quadrant. Various areas of repiling to the blue ground throughout. Flat weave end guards later, to depth of 4cm along top border. Lower border has integral flatweave end. Area of foundation visible to tucks in lower border as visible in the photograph. Reovercast side cords. Inspection advised and further photographs can be requested from the department. Glorious saturated colour typical of classical Khorrossan weavings, very rare green ground border.
