skilfully worked in the form of two Chinese trumpet vine blossoms with furled leaves, the blooms depicted borne on a curling stem near the base with attendant leaves and fruit, the design further enhanced by a beetle below the mouth-rim, the stone of a pale celadon colour with russet highlights

Acquired in China in the 1930s.
Sotheby’s Paris, 11th December 2014, lot 193 (part lot).

Condition

There is a light bruise to the tip of one leaf just below the rim. The stone with some natural veins and calcified inclusions, particularly to the bottom of the vessel.
