Etching with drypoint, 1640, a fine impression of New Hollstein's first state (of two), with the slipped stroke, printing with burr on the cape at right, the hand and the borderlines below, on paper with part of an Arms of Amsterdam watermark

Condition

With a thread margin below, trimmed on or fractionally within the plate mark elsewhere, in good condition apart from a few minute fox marks including a tiny perforated fox mark on the sitter's nose, the extreme lower left tip of the sheet thinning slightly, a few unobtrusive creases, unframed.
