Etching with drypoint and engraving, circa 1648, a warm and atmospheric impression of New Hollstein's second state (of four), before the Baillie rework, on paper with  Strasbourg Lily and Name of Jesus watermarks  

Condition

with margins, on fine, laid 17th century paper, in good condition apart from an unobtrusive long repaired tear, extending from the top to bottom of print towards the left of subject, with three small associated surface losses touched-in with pen and black ink in the upper left corner of print, a few tiny, barely discernible touchings-in in grey ink on tiny lost spots along the tear, the repaired tear mainly visible verso, a few small spots of touching in in pen and black ink in the dark upper background of print, as well as on the headdress of figure next to the ass at right, some thin in the paper presumably due to being previously adhered, some pale discoloration visible towards the left of print, lesser defects
