Engraving printed from three plates, circa 1575, on three sheets of laid paper, a very crisp impression of the second (final) state of this rare and monumental print, printed by Antonio Carenzano, Rome, 1613, with his address, with a circular watermark on the left sheet (Fleur de Lys?)
Condition
The right sheet with a few short repaired tears at the right sheet edge, two brown stains towards the top of the sheet, a small area made up in pen and ink in the upper branch of tree below the bird's head, a few thinned areas, a vertical crease towards the left sheet edge, a few nicks at the sheet edges, lesser defects. The middle sheet with several short repaired tears at the sheet edges, a vertical crease towards the left broken towards the lower sheet edge, two further vertical creases, the usual central horizontal drying fold, some skinned areas verso, a fine vertical tear towards the left edge, with one or two small associated made up areas lesser defects. The left sheet with some vertical creases, a horizontal crease, a diagonal crease at the top right corner, the usual discoloration associated with a print of this age.
