Description

  • zitan (pterocarpus santalinue)
made in zitan throughout, the cover hinged on the back of the chest, the cover and front wall carved with two dragons chasing a pearl, the two sides and back with chihulong, the front decorated with a lotus-shaped metal plate with a lock receptacle and lift-up hasp, the sides flanked by a pair of baitong C-shaped loop handles suspending from chrysanthemum-shaped plates

Condition

Good overall condition. As visible in the photo, the upper corners retain the impression of earlier metal mounts. There is a 3.5 cm area of consolidation on the box to the left of the metal plate at the front of the box. Other minor bruises, scratches and surface wear.
