(Rhode Island School of Design: Photographic Education Society, 1966-1970), a group of 4 portfolios comprised of 80 gelatin silver prints by Harry Callahan, Emmet Gowin, James Dow, and others and 2 chromogenic prints, each mounted to card, some signed and/or titled and dated in ink or pencil on the mount, 1966-70; title pages numbered in ink '5/100,' '60/150,' '5/150,' and '12/150,' loose prints housed within linen sleeves or clamshell portfolio cases (4)

Condition

These 4 portfolios are in overall excellent condition. 1966-67: This portfolio is comprised of 14 gelatin silver prints. Each photograph is signed and dated in pencil on the mount, which also bears the photographer's credit, title, and date typeset in the lower left corner. The title sheet is very faintly soiled. The loose prints are contained in a black folio sleeve within a brown card slipcase with black letterpress title. The slipcase is inscribed 'Proof #5' in an unidentified hand in pencil in the upper left corner. Photographers include: Harry Callahan Richard Lebowitz Murray Riss Benjamin Larrabee Warren Krupsaw Brian Pelletier Eileen Rubinstein James Dow: There a piece of yellow paper adhered to the reverse of the mount and '617 484 4624 95 Clifton St Belmont' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil. Linda Connor Emmet Gowin Paul Krot Ed Sievers Robert Haiko John McWilliams 1967-68: This portfolio is comprised of 20 gelatin silver prints and one chromogenic print. Each photograph is signed in pencil on the mount, which also bears the photographer's credit, title, and date typeset in the lower left corner. The title page is unevenly and faintly stained and several mounts are faintly scuffed. The loose prints are contained within a black folio sleeve, which is scuffed overall. The sleeve is contained within a brown laid paper covered folio with black letterpress title. The brown folio has an area of white scuffing at the center right edge of the cover. Each mount is blindstamped with the sequential plate number in the lower left corner and numbered on the reverse in pencil. The Harry Callahan photograph is signed in pencil on the mount, as well as a few of the other prints. The first few mounts of the portfolio are faintly yellowed, and the Harry Callahan mount is faintly scuffed. The title page, colophon, and plate list are gently creased along the left edges. The loose prints are contained within a black linen-covered portfolio case, with two pieces of masking tape inscribed '5' and 'Brian Pelletier' in ink in an unidentified hand.
