Condition

This albumen print is in generally very good condition. Grading this print on a scale of 1 to 10 - a 10 being a print with rich dark brown tones and highlights that retain all of their original detail - this photograph rates a 10. There is no fading of the impressive, subtly modulated tones, which range from bright, creamy highlights to rich chocolate and eggplant dark tones, and the clouds are rendered with great clarity. Upon close inspection, small handling creases are visible overall and there are 2 long, subtle creases in the center, none of which appears to break the emulsion nor detract in any way from the overall fine quality of this excellent print. The corners are bumped and creased, with attendant minuscule edge-chipping. There are tiny tack-holes in the corners. On the reverse of the print, the negative number '12,973' is written by the photographer in black ink. The reverse is slightly soiled with some scattered brown deposits, possibly foxing. There are three hinge remnants along the upper edge.
