Description

  • Edward Weston
  • Dunes, Oceano
  • gelatin silver print
mounted, signed, and dated in pencil on the mount, numbered '61 SP' in pencil on the reverse, 1936

Condition

This early print, mounted on slick white board, is in generally good condition. There are several scuffs, deposits of original retouching, and a few faint scratches, including a small scratch in the center that appears to have broken the emulsion. There is a tiny loss of emulsion in the dune in the lower right quadrant and a linear rust-colored stain in the lower left that may be original retouching that has discolored. There are 2 liquid drips in the left portion of the sky that appear as milky spots when viewed under raking light. The mount is soiled and foxed. The edges and corners are worn and bent, and the upper paperply is peeling in several areas. There is a large crease in the upper center of the mount, not affecting the image. The reverse of the mount is soiled, foxed, and stained.
