platinum print, the photographer's initials stamped on the image, mounted, mounted again to grey board, 1897-99

Christie's New York, 17 April 1997, Sale 8624, Lot 45
Literature
Weston J. Naef, The Collection of Alfred Stieglitz. Fifty Pioneers of Modern Photography (New York: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1978), p. 321
Condition
This hand-coated platinum print, with warm creamy highlights and soft charcoal darks, is in generally excellent condition. Upon very close examination, the following are visible: a pin-point-sized matte deposit on the sitter's torso; and a thin line of original retouching extending from the lower edge of the image.
The photograph is mounted to grey card that measures 5-1/4 by 7 inches. It is then mounted again to larger grey card that measures 11 by 13-1/4 inches. The left, right, and lower edges of the secondary mount are beveled. There is minimal evidence of soiling and wear to the mount.
