Condition

This album of 13 albumen prints - 12 by Charles Leander Weed of Yosemite Valley and Mammoth Grove, and 1 by George Barker of Niagara Falls, are in generally fair to good condition. Grading these albumen prints on a scale of one to 10 - a 10 being an albumen print that has deep brown dark tones and highlights that retain all of their original detail - these prints rate a 6. While there is great depth in the dark tones, the highlights are quite warm and have yellowed with age. Foxing and soiling are pervasive over the front and reverse of the mounts, sometimes affecting the images. The plates are sequentially numbered in a modern hand in pencil on the mount and there are also occasional other notations in a modern hand. The album is modern, bound in taupe linen with a gilt-lettered red leather label on the cover. It is in excellent condition. Two of the plates have separated from the binding along their linen hinges.
