Condition

These early ferrotyped prints, trimmed to the image, are in generally very good condition. As is typical of ferrotyped prints, faint scratches, minor surface pitting, fingerprints are visible overall. There are several white crayon marks on the image, possibly cropping notations. Impressions from handwriting on the reverse are visible in raking light. The reverse of each print is taped to its window mat with 2 pieces of brown tape along the upper and lower edges. 'At Curragh Racecourse': In raking light, a number of small creases that do not appear to break the emulsion are visible overall. Faint pink accretions are visible in the upper portion of the image. There is yellowed adhesive and some abrasions on the reverse. The annotations are as follows: 'Europeens -57-'; '7.14 [14 crossed out] 11'; 'T3'; '209' [twice written, once crossed out]; '174'; and 'U3006.' When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce. 'Berlin Wall': There is yellowed adhesive on the reverse. The annotations are as follows: '7910-20'; '7910/20'; '10.11'; '444' [twice written, once crossed out]; '276'; and 'U3001.' When examined under ultraviolet light, this print fluoresces readily.
