Les armes sont celles de la famille Lamb of Brocket Hall, Bishop's Hatfield, Hertfordshire, pour Matthew Lamb (1705-1768), titré baronet le 17 janvier 1755, et pour son fils, Sir Peniston Lamb, deuxième baronet, né en 1745. Ce dernier fut créé vicomte Melbourne of Kilmore le 11 janvier 1781. Il fut le père de William, deuxième vicomte Melbourne (1779-1848), Premier Ministre du roi William IV et de la reine Victoria.
