Description

Condition

The panel is flat and cradled. The paint surface is slightly unclean and the varnish is uneven. Under ultra violet inspection the varnish appears milky, and there are some minor scattered retouchings to the foliage on the left margin and in the centre. Overall the picture is in good condition. The work is offered in a carved gilt wood frame, ornamented with a painted floral pattern.

Catalogue Note

A copy after a painting of similar dimensions by Jan Breughel the Elder now in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden.1  Another version, also of similar dimensions was painted by the artist's son Jan Breughel the Younger, now in Galerie Finck, Brussels.2
