Description

  • Flemish School, 17th century
  • Saint Jerome at prayer in a rocky landscape
  • oil on panel

Condition

The panel is flat and reinforced with a horizontal support baton, with four further support batons in the corners. The paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is discoloured. To the naked eye there are some retouchings visible along a split from the lower margin. This restoration is confirmed under ultra violet inspection. This ultra violet inspection also identifies an uneven varnish and retouching throughout the sky, and scattered throughout the lower half of the painting. Overall the work is in good and stable condition.
