Description
- Saint Anthony Abbot, half-length
- oil and gold ground on panel
- 38 x 34.5 cm
Condition
The following condition report is provided by Henry Gentle who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's:
The soft wood support has been cradled and there is evidence of worm damage.
The constriction within the cradle has led to horizontal splits and undulation of the panel. Minor paint loss is evident along the splits.
The paint layer is stable. There has been minor wear to the gold ground with recent retouching.
Minor restoration to the head and right hand of the Saint and along the bottom edge can be seen.
Overall, the figure is well preserved with original paint intact.
