Catalogue Note
The impaled Coat of Arms depicts the marital arms of the sitter Hugh Prust, and his wife Anne (c. 1587-1627), daughter of Francis Cary of Alwington and Clovelly, left and right, respectively. Both members of ancient Devon families, their Arms and pedigree were recorded at the Heralds' Visitation of Devon in 1620.1
