Description
- Jan Frans van Bloemen, called l'Orizzonte
- Landscape with the Temple of Vesta, Tivoli, with figures resting on the bank of the river
- oil on canvas, unlined
Condition
The canvas is unlined, and uneven within its stretcher. The paint surface is unclean and there are a very small number of minor paint losses in the sky and the hillside. There is one 3 cm loss beneath the temple, in the centre of the work. Ultra violet inspection an uneven, discoloured varnish is revealed. The oxidisation with has occurred within the varnish makes it difficult to discern the nature of old restoration. Overall the painting is in very good, original condition. The work is offered in a carved gilt wood frame.
