Description
- Antonio Bellucci
- Bacchus and Ariadne; Hercules and Omphale
- a pair, both oil on canvas
Provenance
Anonymous sale, Vienna, Dorotheum, 15 October 2013, lot 558 (as Antonio Bellucci).
Condition
Both canvases have recently been relined, restretched and reframed, and have both been unevenly cleaned and restored. The figures and flesh tones are generally quite well-preserved with some scattered repairs to the back of Hercules, to the right arm, shoulder and breast of Ariadne, and to the right arm of Omphale. But there has been uneven intervention in the darks and the backgrounds in both paintings, where there is some visible restoration. In overall reasonably good but inconsistent condition. Both offered in modern plain gilt wood frames in good condition.
