  • An elegant couple strolling in a formal garden, figures picking tulips at the right
  • oil on panel, the reverse branded with the mark of the city of Antwerp and incised with the maker's mark of François de Bout (active 1637–1649)

Condition

The panel is flat and uncradled, and has been bevelled on all four sides. It is composed of two horizontal planks, with a small number of strengthening joints on the reverse. The paint surface is clean and recently restored. Ultra violet inspection reveals some retouching alone the joint between the two panels and over one old split in each plank. There is some minor retouching to the woman's dress and in the cherubim. There is some retouching to the lower margin. Overall the panel is stable and in good condition. The work is offered in a moulded gesso and gilt wood frame, ornamented with a floral pattern.
